Your old TV has just given it up and you need a new TV, but you are very confused on what to buy. Your question is Plasma TV or LCD TV and the sales people at the store are not giving you the information you need.
Plasma TVs were all the talk of the television industry just a few years ago but today they are being challenged by DLP and LCD TV’s as well. Plasma televisions have come down in price over the last few years and the quality has only increased. Plasma TV’s are today’s most sought after and best viewing televisions on the market. They are thin and can be either placed on a wall or fit on its on component or piece of furniture, so a plasma TV stand is a vital component. Plasma TVs can suffer from burn-in produced by static images. After extended periods, stationary images “burn in” and produce an after-image ghost which remains permanently on the screen.
Panasonic 3d Plasma Hdtv
Flat-panel TVs create beautifully bright, crisp images using either LCD or plasma screen technology. Many models measure 4 inches deep or less, opening up a whole new range of TV placement options. Flat panel TVs are not the only ones to lose brightness over time; every TV set does, including the traditional CRTs. Flat screen televisions make for a great gift for Christmas, birthdays or any occasion. Yet, selecting the most appropriate TV can be challenging if the consumer doesn’t know what he or she is looking for.
HDTV improves this dramatically for both. HDTV is short for high-definition television, which offers clarified, precise images with enriched colors and contrast. With superior resolution and sound, it quickly became the new standard for broadcasting.
Plasma TV screens can create a multitude of tints by varying the intensity of the light from these three sub pixels. When it?s time to display an image signal (RGB or video), a digitally controlled electric current flows through the flat screen, causing the plasma inside designated bubbles to give off ultraviolet rays. Plasma TVs have been steadily encroaching upon affordability in the last few years. Many new manufacturing plants have opened in China and Korea that produce the glass panel, which is the chief plasma display element. Plasma TVs offer large viewing areas (up to 50 inches) but are very thin. While they offer excellent picture quality, they are quite expensive and are fast becoming the popular choice for HDTV.
Brightness: LCD TVs are said to do slightly better in bright-light conditions. Black Levels: Plasma TVs generally produce very black blacks whereas an LCD TV will produce a very dark charcoal gray.
Consider buying Plasma TV for the purposes of viewing home videos like DVD or viewing HDTV channels.
Plasma TV’s also do not have as long of a life span than a LCD TV. A plasma TV has a life span of generally about 30,000 hours, while an LCD TV doubles that with about 60,000 hours.
Plasma screens are high voltage devices that create light in three colors (red, green, and blue) in varying shades at each pixel to create an image on the screen. LCD screens filter or block light in three primary colors at each pixel in order to create an image. Plasma sets also encounter some image quality problems stemming from the nature of their pixels. Because plasma pixels need an electrical discharge in order to emit light, a pixel must be lit or unlit, but has no intermediate state. Plasma televisions come in conventional PC display sizes and also in sizes up to 63 inches for home theater and high definition television.
LCD screens: Liquid is suspended between two transparent panels. Within the liquid are crystals that, when activated by voltage, re-position themselves so that they either allow the light to pass through the panel and or block the light. Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) panels – work by trapping a liquid crystal solution between two sheets of polarized glass. When an electric current is passed through the liquid crystals, they change the polarization of the light passing through them in response to the electric voltage ? as a result of which, more or less light is able to pass through the polarized glass on the face of the display.
LCD TVs in increasing quantities, Sony is building a logistics center adjacent to the production site at ?Nitra Technology Center?. With addition of the logistics center due to start operating this autumn, Sony is positioning ?Nitra Technology Center? LCD TVs produce sharper pictures with high quality colors while plasma TVs can give more realistic colors. Both have their technical glitches, of course: plasmas can suffer from a burn-in effect while LCDs suffer from stuck pixels.
Currently, a 42-inch plasma display sells for approximately 00, with cheaper ? and smaller ? versions available. LCD, or liquid crystal display, TVs have only recently taken off, and are currently more expensive than plasma. Currently in the plasma vs. LCD TV battle, plasma wins on the price because of their head start on producing the larger models. Currently, Plasma TVs have the advantage of offering larger screen sizes. Commonly available Plasma TV screen sizes include 32-inch, 42-inch, 50-inch and 63-inch models.
Panasonic has a series out right now that uses DLP and a new plasma lamp. It gives the quality of picture of high-end LED units but at a fraction of the cost and nearly the same lamp life. Panasonic’s professional plasma monitors have great picture quality considering their price, but the trade offs — including the lack of a tuner — might be too much for some. Samsung plasma TVs fall short of these TVs when it comes to blacks, but overall picture quality and relative value make it one of the best choices for many buyers.
Sharp does a couple smart things to enhance the black levels on its 37G4U display. First, they include a first-rate anti-glare/darkness-enhancing coating on the LCD screen to counter excessive light emissions, which tend to dull blacks on the screen. Sharp produces one of the largest available LCD displays at 45 inches, while Samsung has a 46 inch, Sony and NEC currently produce units measuring 40″ diagonally.
LCD TVs continued their strong growth, gaining 56% to a record of 28.5 million units during the quarter. For the entire year, Display search estimated that about 79.3 million LCD TVs were shipped, translating into a 40% of the total market of 200 million TVs.
As you can see when trying to decide on a Plasma TV or LCD TV there are good and bad qualities to each. But now you have a little more knowledge about Plasma TV or LCD TV’s that you can go back to the TV store and ask the sales people better questions.

Is 720p vs 1080i worth being concerned about? Yes and no. If you’re a consumer looking for a new TV, you can happily ignore the 720p vs 1080i debate because every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both formats.
NOTE: You should be aware though that lots of TVs which support 1080i have fewer than 1080 lines and so scale the 1080 signal down. That’s not a huge issue as even scaled down 1080i is far ahead of a regular NTSC signal. It is worth bearing in mind that more expensive HDTVs tend to have better scalers than cheaper ones, and this may be an issue.
Panasonic 3d Plasma Hdtv
However, for broadcasters it’s a live issue. Should they broadcast 1080 lines of interlaced video or 720 lines of progressive scan? They could just broadcast two signals, one in each format, but that would use up a huge chunk of bandwidth and be hugely expensive for very little gain.
To answer the question, it’s important to understand the difference between 720p vs 1080i. A 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan (hence the ‘p’)The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV. A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the ‘i’), ie every other lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.
Most of the time interlacing works fine, but for fast moving images, such as sports like baseball and hockey it can cause problems which manifest themselves as a ’stepping’ effect on-screen. Progressive scan signals don’t have this problem and so are better suited to sports.
ESPN puts it like this: ‘Progressive scan technology produces better images for the fast moving orientation of sports television. Simply put, with 104 mph fastballs in baseball and 120 mph shots on goal in hockey, the line-by-line basis of progressive scan technology better captures the inherent fast action of sports. For ESPN, progressive scan technology makes perfect sense.’
Bottom line? For us, as consumers 720p vs 1080i is not a debate worth worrying about, so you can relax and focus on all the other criteria on your list when you buy your next HDTV.

3D Technology Checklist
This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:
![]() |
A Display First, you’ll need a 3D-ready display–whether it’s a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession. |
![]() |
A Source Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you’ll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system. |
![]() |
3D Content 3D content–the actual entertainment, in other words–will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it’s a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game. |
![]() |
3D Glasses For now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered “active shutter” glasses, others polarized “passive” glasses. You’ll need one pair per viewer, and they’ll have to be compatible with your display, whether they’re the same brand, or a pair of “universal” glasses designed to work across brands. |
![]() |
HDMI Cable To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you’ll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality. |
| If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D. | |
Internet-Ready Devices

Internet-ready devices use your broadband connection to deliver dynamic content to your television, whether it’s streaming video from Netflix, new music from Pandora, or a quick glance at today’s weather forecast.
Although there is overlap, each manufacturer offers a unique bundle of free or paid services, including streaming video and music, social networking apps, online photo galleries, news and financial updates, weather info, sports scores, and a variety of other smartphone-like applications.
Manufacturers continue to add new content to their offerings, keeping customers current through firmware updates, and making a bit of research a prudent step in your buying decision.

It improves image contrast by surpassing the amount of external light that’s reflected. So daytime viewing is improved for a crystal-clear picture and dark detail is crisp and well-defined. Real Black Filter especially helps maintain a high contrast so even your nighttime viewing features rich blacks and realistic images.

Internet has presented us with an enormous opportunity to promote and market products, services, and various other online businesses. Till this date, use of internet was for educational, entertainment, and for small as well as e-commerce businesses. But in these recent days, internet is being widely used to build consumer relationship, gather market research data, and to boost brand awareness. Free laptop giveaway offers are just like many other giveaways promotions where companies are handing out free laptops in an attempt to gather those market research data from real users of those laptops.
You might have heard about those free laptop giveaways where you sign up to get a free laptop shipped to you. Just like the laptop offers, there are other free offers like free plasma T.V giveaways, free electronics, gas card, grocery store coupons and gift cards, etc. All of those free offers have one common goal which is to promote brand awareness and to gain feedback form real users of those products. So while you are getting those expensive items for free, companies are gaining critical market research data form you as a user of those products.

Some site will require you just to submit your email address and some will ask you to participate in a brief survey. It is only fair to participate in the survey as you are supposed to give something back in exchange of a laptop. In this case you participate in a survey and offer your valuable opinion in exchange of a free laptop.
If you are not interested in filling out any surveys, then there is no worry as some offer sites only require you to submit your email address to get a laptop for free. Just read the offer details to see which offer requires you to do what and act accordingly. If you are submitting your email address, you could submit a free email provided by Gmail, Yahoo, or MSN as long as you can verify that you received the email sent to you.
So what you are waiting for? Go find some free laptop offers and sign up for one or few. After all you got nothing to lose as you are not paying anything, not even the shipping and handling.

(March 2011)
Step into the 3D World. The VIERA ST30 Series Full HD 3D Plasmas create an all new viewing experience by putting you inside the action and creating a new world of TV viewing realism.
Infinite Black 2
In new VIERA models, contrast in brightly lit locations has been significantly improved. Enhancements to the panel and cells help reproduce images with smooth, natural gradation and deep, rich blacks even when viewed in bright surroundings. In movies, the true, deep blacks faithfully convey the intent of the filmmakers, adding power and realism to the viewing experience.
Full-time 1080 Moving Picture Resolution
VIERA plasma TVs have 1,080 lines of moving-picture resolution. Newly developed phosphors with minimal afterimages and a new motion compensating technology have made it possible to render faster-moving images with greater sharpness. This far surpasses the APDC moving-picture resolution measurement standard of 5 seconds by providing a moving-picture resolution of 1,080 lines at the 1.5-second level. And it shows the inherently clear motion of VIERA TVs in both 2D and 3D images.
3D 24p Cinema Smoother
VIERA incorporates technology that analyzes picture information in both the preceding and succeeding frames, and creates a precise supplementary frame between them. This suppresses the jerky effect seen in movies so playback is smooth and natural-looking. The distinctive tonal qualities and atmosphere of the movie are preserved and you enjoy extremely lifelike 3D images.

Frame Sequential Technology
Panasonic uses Full-HD Frame Sequential technology to create its 3D images. Images recorded in 1920 x 1080 pixels for both the right-eye and the left-eye alternately flash on the screen at the ultra-high rate of 120 frames per second. When you view the screen through active-shutter glasses that open and close each lens in sync with the alternating images, you see breathtaking FULL HD 3D pictures with stunning power and realism.
Dynamic Contast
By combining the highly light-transmissive IPS Alpha Panel and high-brightness backlight, Panasonic has attained both high contrast and low power consumption. Also, by detecting the contrasting parts of the scene, the backlight is adjusted to maintain a brightness that is optimal for each area. Deep blacks are reproduced with no fading. The contrast between the brilliance of diamond-like stars and the deep black of the night sky produces a sharp, crisp image.
600Hz Sub-field Drive
600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into dots. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects.
3D Image Viewer
It’s easy to view 3D photos and movies you shot yourself on the big VIERA screen. After shooting with your 3D-compatible camera or camcorder, simply insert the SD card into the slot on a 3D-compatible VIERA TV. The viewing is incredible, with images so realistic it feels as though you’re right back in the moment. You’ll find that life’s special moments are even more memorable when you preserve them in 3D.

VIERA Connect
The exciting world of IPTV, centering on TV, is about to begin for the enjoyment of the entire family. Now you can enjoy intuitive remote control while relaxing on the living room sofa, with a wide variety of content at your fingertips. In the near future, TV will also be able to link with a tablet device to achieve completely new forms of entertainment that you’ve never before experienced.
VIERA Link
VIERA Link interlinks the operation of a variety of AV devices, so you can operate them all using only the VIERA remote control. Setup is easy simply connect the compatible devices to each other via HDMI cables.
VIERA Remote
VIERA remote is a TV remote controller app for select Panasonic VIERA HDTVs that uses your iPhone/iPod touch/iPad (of iOS 4.2 or later) to control TV channel selection, input selection, and volume control. Included features are gesture control, a keyboard user Interface, and a power off button. Learn more about Panasonic’s VIERA remote app.
Long Panel Life, Up to 100,000 Hours
One important way consumers can protect the environment is by choosing high-quality products and taking care of them so they last for a long time. A high-quality VIERA HDTV can help. Thanks to a newly designed phosphor process and rear panel process, our plasma panels last for up to 100,000 hours before the brightness decreases by half. That’s more than 30 years of viewing 8 hours a day.
Environment-Friendly Panel
Mercury and Lead Free Plasma Display Panel Panasonic is committed to making our products more friendly to the environment. In line with this commitment, all VIERA plasma display panels are free of both lead and mercury. This reduces impact on the environment years down the road when the TV is recycled or retired from use.
